Supporting a Stronger Democracy
The Challenge
When Advancement Project challenged Florida’s efforts to make it harder to vote, the organization brought us on to spearhead the media relations for this effort. We needed a strong showing in the press in order to inform Floridians that their right to vote was at stake and that our client was helping defend it. It was also an opportunity to show the opposition and the judge that attacks on the right to vote are garnering public attention.
Floridians’ right to vote is at stake. Our client’s lawsuit sought to protect it.
Our Approach
Through careful planning and close communication with our client, we prepared in advance for the announcement of the lawsuit, which included a video conference call. We did this by drafting an ambitious media outreach plan, creating a suite of press outreach documents, and building a detailed press list that positioned us to gain deep exposure within the state.
The Results
Our work on the announcement of the lawsuit yielded 17 media hits, including major newspapers in Florida, local TV stations, and national and local Spanish-language media outlets. Our client won this lawsuit before moving on to the appeals process.
