Ensuring that Every Voter Has a Voice

The Challenge

Our client, Dēmos, and their partner, Organize Tennessee, were troubled by the low rate of participation in Tennessee elections, especially among communities of color. When they wrote a new report bringing to light the impact of the state’s policies and lack of investment, the advocates were eager to maximize exposure for the report, especially among advocates and decision-makers.

Tennessee’s voting laws dampen turnout. Our client’s report outlines how to remove these barriers.

Our Approach

We collaborated closely with our client and their partner and devised a strategy aligning the available resources with communications goals. Accordingly, we developed a suite of materials and a curated list of members of the press to approach. We pitched the report under embargo using language that clearly conveyed why it was timely, impactful, and worth writing about.

The Results

Our work yielded our client media hits in Tennessee’s most important media markets, including an in-depth story in the main newspaper in Memphis, an op-ed in the biggest newspaper in the state, and a story on an NPR affiliate. Read more below.
